No injuries in fire at Joe Gibbs Racing

HUNTERSVILLE — Joe Gibbs Racing said that no employees were injured Tuesday when a fire broke out in its machine shop.

A spokesman for the NASCAR team said that a few employees were treated for smoke inhalation but were not taken to the hospital.

All employees returned to the building after the fire.

Federal appeals court to hear NASCAR drug case

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A federal appeals panel is set to hear arguments in former racecar driver Jeremy Mayfield's lawsuit against NASCAR over his suspension for failing a random drug test.

Mayfield is asking the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to reinstate his lawsuit. A federal judge dismissed the suit, ruling that Mayfield signed documents that waived his right to sue.

Patrick will skip Indy for Charlotte

CHARLOTTE (AP) — Richard Petty Motorsports has hired Aric Almirola to drive the famed No. 43 in NASCAR's elite Sprint Cup Series.

Almirola is leaving a job driving for JR Motorsports in the Nationwide Series to take over the car seven-time NASCAR champion Richard Petty made famous.

Almirola replaces AJ Allmendinger, who left last month to take a job at Penske Racing.

Allmendinger to drive No. 22 Penske car

MOORESVILLE (AP) — Roger Penske has hired AJ Allmendinger to replace Kurt Busch in the No. 22 car.

Allmendinger, 30, had 10 top-10 finishes and was 15th in points during the 2011 season while driving Richard Petty's No. 43 car.

The move, announced today, takes Penske back to his open-wheel roots.

CHARLOTTE (AP) — NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick said Monday his seat came loose in the Oct. 31 plane crash that left him with four broken ribs and a broken shoulder.

The Gulfstream G150 had brake problems upon landing at the Key West Airport in Florida. The private plane ran off the runway, and despite wearing his seat belt, Hendrick was still injured.
