Regarding daytime talk diva Oprah Winfrey’s announcement to discontinue her once highly rated TV show:

A Gallup poll showed her favorable ratings just prior to her public endorsement of then-presidential candidate Barack Obama at a whopping 74 percent. Another poll taken immediately after her endorsement of candidate Obama found this number had fallen to 66 percent.

Burckley’s role in Knight campaign disputed

The story in the Nov. 15 News & Record (Allen Johnson column) about my involvement with “Citizen Bill Burckley” does not agree with the facts.

Had the paper contacted me it would have learned that I terminated Burckley’s services in early September. I disagree with the column’s statements that Burckley ran my campaign.

Photos in newspaper are more than just pictures

I want to congratulate the staff of photographers with the News & Record for their excellent work. The quality goes beyond the simple, straight news picture, and joins the category of art. The picture that led me to write a comment was in the Monday, Nov. 23, issue.

It was of the N.C. A&T Gwynn Dancers and was taken by Lynn Hey. What a perfect picture!
