Trooper should have remained off the force

I was appalled, first, to read that the state trooper who was fired for abusing his dog had been reinstated, and then that a judge had agreed (“Trooper in dog-kicking gets back job, back pay,” Feb. 7). Isn’t there a law that would consider kicking your dog five times and hoisting him off the ground by his collar to be animal cruelty?

Mitt Romney gave away his inheritance. His $200 million was earned by buying financially troubled businesses, reducing costs, putting those businesses in a sound fiscal state and selling the then-profitable businesses.

I heard that Republican City Councilwoman Trudy Wade wrote a letter to her supporters stating that a council resolution opposing a GOP-proposed constitutional marriage amendment is “a frontal assault against the institution of marriage.”

Wade knows that N.C. law already bans same-sex marriage.

Thanks to Jack Hayworth (letter, Feb. 9), with Rick Santorum’s help, for straightening me out on why it’s our duty to discriminate against and deny marriage rights to gays. As they so eloquently wrote, it’s because gays “don’t deserve the 'privilege’ ” and they don’t “ 'benefit’ society” the way we do.
