The parent company of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette has requested information regarding properties for sale by Landmark Communications, including the News & Record, according to Arkansas Business.com.
Wehco Media of Little Rock, Ark., has requested information regarding the News & Record, The Virginian-Pilot of Norfolk, Va., and the Roanoke Times of Roanoke, Va., according to Paul Smith, president and general manager of the Democrat-Gazette, the site reported Friday.
Smith told the Web site he was unsure whether the company would make a bid for the newspapers, but the requested information about the Landmark properties is the first stage of a possible sale.
Wehco is the parent company of The Chattanooga (Tenn.) Times Free Press, the News Tribune of Jefferson City, Mo., and has many other print and television holdings.
In January, Landmark announced it would begin exploring the sale of its media holdings, including The Weather Channel, its major newspapers in Greensboro, Norfolk and Roanoke, two television stations, smaller community papers, an Internet Marketing Company and a data telecommunications company.
Landmark has owned the News & Record since 1965.
Not all of the newspaper's content appears online.
