Was that really North Carolina's coach sitting behind Kansas' bench during Monday's NCAA championship game?
And was he really wearing a Jayhawks sticker two days after Kansas thumped his Tar Heels and sent the state into a funk?
From barrooms to blogs, everyone has an opinion on Williams' attire. Some called it a classy move by a classy coach who spent 15 years at Kansas before taking over at UNC in 2005.
Others weren't so kind.
"Where does his loyalty lie?" asked one blogger on scout.com. "You don't see Target employees wearing Wal-Mart smocks do you? If he was going to root for Kansas he should have done it at home. There is no excuse for his action and he (should be) terminated ASAP."
Williams explained his fashion statement at halftime: "I've got at least nine former (Kansas) players here pulling for their school," he told a reporter. "Even if I hadn't given them 15 years, with those relationships, I'm pulling for the Jayhawks."
Steve Price wasn't buying it.
The Greensboro real estate agent was watching Monday's championship game at Fishers Grille when Williams was shown wearing the sticker resplendent against his black shirt.
"I thought it was an impersonator, a pretty good one, too," Price said. "I still can't believe he did that. I don't care what his history is (at Kansas), you don't get beat by them and show up two nights later rooting for them."
