WINSTON-SALEM -- Wake Forest University will offer free screening for oral cancer on Friday, April 25, in observance of Oral, Head, and Neck Cancer Awareness Week, April 21-27.
The screening is painless and takes about 10 minutes.
Appointments are required. To make one, call Robin R. Plasser at 716-4161 or e-mail rplasser@wfubmc.edu. The screenings will take place at the university's Department of Otolaryngology on Medical Center Boulevard in Winston-Salem.
More than 40,000 Americans will be found to have cancers of the head and neck (including oral cavity, larynx and pharynx) this year, and about 7,500 will die of it.
Risk factors including smoking or use of chewing tobacco, and excessive drinking of alcohol.
