Children's egg hunts plentiful this week

Today starts the Easter weekend with special church services and lots of Easter egg hunts for the little ones. Here are just a few:

The city of Eden will sponsor an Easter egg hunt at Freedom Park on Saturday, and there also is a hunt at Chinqua Penn Plantation. Dress the kids in their finest Easter outfits, bring their Easter baskets and spend the day on the hunt.

If you want the kids' pictures made with the Easter bunny, go to the Riverhouse Gift and Gourmet in Eden for a professional portrait. Tom Barbour of Barbour Studio & Gallery will take the pictures for $6.

Easter events

* Maundy Thursday Service, 7 p.m. today, First United Methodist Church, 130 Main St., Eden. Presented by First United Methodist Church, Draper Pentecostal Holiness Church and Immanuel Friends Church in Draper. The service will consist of a foot washing, the Lord's Supper and an ancient practice of stripping the church. 635-3103, 635-1900 or 635-1964.

* Maundy Thursday Service, 7 p.m., North Spray Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 521 Washburn Ave., Eden. Communion service. 623-2371.

* Holy Thursday Worship Service, 7 p.m., Mayodan United Methodist Church, 501 W. Main St., Mayodan. Drama: "A Vigil of Remembrance." 548-9508.

* Tenebrae Service, 7 p.m. today, First United Methodist Church, 1520 S. Scales St., Reidsville. 349-6017.

* "Room of Remembrance" Maundy Thursday Service, 7:30 p.m., Calvary Baptist Church, 7860 N.C. 87, Reidsville. This drama is set at the time of the Jerusalem Conference, at which the church decided whether Gentiles had to become Jews before they could become Christians.

At the end of the drama, the congregation is invited to partake of the Lord's Supper in a way that evokes personal reflections and Christian action. 349-7474.

* Kid's Kraft: Bunny Treat Pot, 10 a.m. Friday, Everyday Art Studio and Gallery, 209 SW Market St., Reidsville. Paint a flower pot you will fill with Easter candy. Registration required. $10. Instructor: Robyn McCann. 613-1522.

* Good Friday Service, 7 p.m., Draper Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1608 Delaware St., Eden.

Presented by First United Methodist Church, Draper Pentecostal Holiness Church and Immanuel Friends Church in Draper. Service of Tenebrae, or Service of the Shadows, which is a candlelight service with reading on the Passion of Jesus Christ. 635-3103, 635-1900 or 635-1964.

* Easter Egg Hunt, 10 a.m. Saturday, Mayodan United Methodist Church, 501 W. Main St., Mayodan. 548-9508.

* Easter bunny photos, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Riverhouse Gift and Gourmet, 646-A Washington St., Eden. Tom Barbour of Barbour Studio & Gallery will take 5x7 photos for $6.
