Guilford County announced today that Nancy Roy, retired planning director of Cumberland County, will be the interim planning director.
Roy replaces Greg Niles, who died unexpectedly in May. She is not a candidate for the planning director position and will take over the department on Monday.
"Her service over the next several months will enable Guilford County to begin the search for a permanent planning director," County Manager David McNeill said in a news release.
Roy has worked in planning for 21 years. She is the current chairwoman of the Moore County Planning Board.
"I offer my condolences to Guilford County on the loss of such a great employee, and to the planning community, county officials and the folks who knew and respected Greg (Niles) so much," Roy said in the news release. "I look forward to helping in any way I can during the transition period."
