FAYETTEVILLE (AP) A man accused of threatening to stab a woman in Fayetteville has died after being run over several times by the woman's husband.
Authorities said 28-year-old Aaron McLeod died Monday at UNC Hospitals.
Fayetteville police said McLeod had a knife when he approached Anna Moretti outside Primo's Pizza on Friday. Police said she called for her husband, 41-year-old Stanton Moretti, who fired two shots from his handgun as McLeod ran away.
An arrest warrant said Moretti drove after McLeod and hit him three times with his GMC Yukon.
Moretti has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill. The case is now a homicide investigation, but Moretti is not yet facing new charges.
