Grimsley fight prompts new charges

GREENSBORO More charges were issued Wednesday in connection with the Dec. 14 fight at Grimsley High School that resulted in the suspension of 14 students.

Charges were brought against three students Dequan Paris Watt, 17, of 1313 Ogden St., Charniqka Laree Melton, 16, of 1314 Ogden St. and August Hill, 16, of 100 Sussman St., according to arrest warrants.

Watt was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury after allegedly attacking another student with a set of brass knuckles, warrants state.

Watt was also charged with possession of a weapon on school property and felony inciting to riot. The new charges come in addition to a charge of simple affray issued the day of the fight.

Melton was charged with assault of a government employee after allegedly pushing and striking school employee Gregory Eastman in the chest while he was trying to maintain order during the fight, warrants state.

She was also charged with one count of creating a public disturbance and two counts of simple assault after allegedly striking two students.

Hill was also charged with one count of creating a public disturbance and two counts of simple assault for allegedly striking two students.

Watt is being held on a $5,000 bond at the Guilford County jail in Greensboro. Melton and Hill were released to the custody of a guardian.
