Durham police shot a Greensboro man who they say drove into a police officer while fleeing after an armed robbery.

Raul Riva Aldamo, 34, died from the gunshot wound on Saturday, police said Wednesday in a news release. Officers shot at the car Aldamo was driving after it struck an officer responding to an armed break-in, police said.

The case is being investigated by the State Bureau of Investigation and the Durham Police Department. Two officers -- D.F. Rosser and J. Sandoval Jr. -- were put on administrative duty after the shooting.

Officers responded to a break-in on Holloway Street at 5:54 p.m. Saturday, according to the release. Officers were told that the people inside the house had guns.

When officers arrived, they found two men in a Ford Taurus parked behind the house. A third man, who was armed with a gun, came out of the house, but dropped it when ordered to by officers, police said.

The men in the Taurus attempted to leave. The Taurus struck one officer in the leg and then, according to initial reports, the driver drove toward a second officer in a driveway.

Officers fired shots at the vehicle, but the driver fled down Holloway Street to Morgan Street.

The Taurus struck an Isuzu sport utility vehicle near Mangum Street, causing it to flip and collide with a Honda Accord. Two people in the SUV were treated at the hospital; their injuries were not life-threatening.

Police said Aldamo, the driver of the Taurus, ­died at the scene. A passenger jumped from the vehicle and ran but was apprehended.

Investigators charged Alonzo Olmeda Castillo and Luis Campo with first-degree burglary, kidnapping and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Bonds for both men were set at $500,000. Their ages and addresses were not released.
