HIGH POINT — A man who was out on bond on burglary charges engaged in a home burglary crime spree in September and October, police said today.

The High Point Police Department's property crimes unit began investigating a rash of home burglaries in the Laurel Springs and Laurel Oaks subdivisions in September and October.

4th teen arrested in shooting of store clerk

HIGH POINT — A fourth teenager has been arrested in connection with a shooting of a convenience store clerk earlier this week.

High Point police said they arrested Bradley Antwaine Stephens, 18, of 407 Crestline Drive. He was charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Chief, sheriff back Tasers in schools

High Point Police Chief Jim Fealy and Guilford County Sheriff BJ Barnes heard support for and frustration with their decisions to arm school resource officers with Tasers.

Guilford reports 11th rabies case of '09

HIGH POINT — A raccoon found on Blain Street has tested positive for the rabies virus.

This is the 11th reported case of rabies in Guilford County this year.

The raccoon had contact with one dog, which was not current on its rabies vaccine.

North Carolina law requires that all domestic pets must be vaccinated against rabies, even if they stay inside exclusively.

HIGH POINT — A clerk was shot this morning at a convenience store on Skeet Club Road.

The shooting happened during a robbery about 11 a.m. at the SkeetClub Grocery at 1533-C Skeet Club Road. The store is part of Parrish Plaza, a small shopping center west of N.C. 68.

Arrest made in shooting of man, son

HIGH POINT — Police have arrested a 19-year-old man after two men were shot Tuesday afternoon.

High Point police arrested Corderrel Latrice McCoy of 203 N. Hoskins St. on Tuesday night at his home. He is being held in the Guilford County jail in High Point on a bond of $300,000. He has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder.

Update: Father, son found shot in High Point

HIGH POINT — A father and son were found shot at 400 N. Main St. on Tuesday afternoon.

James Gibbs, 40, was treated for a minor graze to the right side of the head. He was released from High Point Regional Hopsital on Tuesday.

Christopher James Gibbs, 20, suffered three gunshot wounds. He is in good condition Wednesday at High Point Regional after surgery on Tuesday.

High Point to discuss using Tasers in schools

HIGH POINT — Police are looking for a man who robbed a pharmacy at gunpoint Sunday night.

High Point police said the Walgreens pharmacy at 2109 N. Main St. was robbed at 11:14 p.m. Sunday.

High Point delays vote on Market Overlay District

The High Point City Council continued a public hearing on the proposed Market Overlay District to 5:30 p.m. Dec. 7 after receiving several comments and recommendations from close to two dozen public members Monday night.

HIGH POINT (MCT) —The state has appealed a court ruling that affirmed the overturning of a murder verdict in the death of a 3-year-old child.

The N.C. Attorney General's Office on Tuesday petitioned the N.C. Supreme Court to hear the case involving Mary Elizabeth Roach of High Point.

Coble might get GOP challenger from High Point

Hinson will become the first Republican to mount a primary challenge to Coble since he won the 6th District seat 25 years ago.

Business 85 lanes closed in High Point

HIGH POINT — A serious crash has closed all lanes of northbound Business 85 at River Road this morning.

At least one person was seriously hurt in the crash, which happened at 6:07 a.m. Friday. Two vehicles were involved.

The Highway Patrol did not know when the lanes would reopen.

Police: Name on document leads to identification of robbery suspect

HIGH POINT — Police said they identified a robbery suspect because he left something with his name on it at the bank he robbed.

High Point police said a man walked into the Wachovia Bank at 1700 N. Main St. at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday and handed a note to a teller. He left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

High Point considers land for park

After a closed session Monday night to discuss purchase of property, the High Point City Council asked staff to negotiate the purchase of 50 acres for a park.

67 pot plants seized in High Point; 62-year-old woman charged

HIGH POINT — A 62-year-old woman faces drug charges after police found 67 marijuana plants in her home.

High Point police said they seized the plants Tuesday afternoon from 125 Daveler Drive after getting an anonymous complaint. Police also said they found equipment used to cultivate and grow the plants.

HIGH POINT — Police have identified a man who was shot several times in the torso last week.

High Point police said Simplicio Rojas-Jaimez, 34, of High Point is in stable condition at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
