High Point woman dies after car wreck

HIGH POINT — A 19-year-old High Point woman died early this morning after her car crashed into a utility pole and then came to rest against a nearby building, police said.

Christina Elizabeth Brelsford was driving a 1999 Honda south on Elm Street when she lost control just south of Church Avenue and collided into a utility pole, according to police.

Although the flu season so far has been mild, experts expect the flu bug to start making the rounds soon.

The N.C. Health Department said the number of flu-like complaints is pretty typical for this time of year. Since November, flu has been confirmed in Wake and Burke counties, according to state reports. North Carolina's flu season runs through mid-to-late March.
