RALEIGH − Reworked legislation that would change the way Guilford County elects its school board cleared a House committee this afternoon and could get a vote from the full House as soon as tomorrow.

Senate Bill 317, originally proposed by state Sen. Trudy Wade, R-Guilford, has been through several iterations. But the House version calls for a countywide referendum next year to decide whether board elections should become partisan affairs or remain non-partisan.
