Several students and teachers hit the blacktop on Oct. 29 at Johnson Street Global Studies. Some walked. Some jogged. Some of them made the laps solo. Others chatted with friends.

Each week, 50 students and eight to 10 staff volunteers meet for an hour of education about nutrition, exercise and character building, then head outside for some laps.

GREENSBORO — The county will lose $10,000 if the school district does not exercise an option to buy a particular site for the future Southeast area elementary school.

Guilford County Schools has until Nov. 30 to buy the 55 acres about two miles north of Interstate 85 along Mount Hope Church Road.

Cuyler McKnight will leave his post as executive vice president at GTCC to lead the 157-year-old military school.

WINSTON-SALEM (MCT) — Even if a drama teacher at Mineral Springs Middle School who is charged with sexual misconduct is cleared of the charges, he could still lose his job, school officials said Thursday.

The teacher, Ralph David Surridge, 57, was charged with 10 counts of felony sexual misconduct. He was also charged with possession of firearms by a felon.
