The Hoppers’ total of 161 homers:
• Is the highest by any Minor League team below Triple-A this year.
• Is the highest by a Greensboro team since pro ball returned to the city in 1979.
Mike Stanton’s total of 39 homers:
• Is the highest by any professional under the age of 19 – Stanton won’t turn 19 until November – since at least 1962. Dick Simpson of the 1962 San Jose Bees hit 42 dingers and turned 19 on July 28 of that year. (Records don’t indicate the date of Simpson’s 40th homer.)
• Is tied for second in all of the Majors or Minors this season. Greensboro native and Randleman High School grad Dallas McPherson has 42 for the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes, another Florida Marlins affiliate.
• Is tied for second in South Atlantic League history for a season. Russell Branyan of the 1996 Columbus Red Stixx hit 40.
• Is second in Greensboro’s professional history, which dates to 1905. Henry Parrish of the 1929 Patriots hit 45.
Promotions
• RHP Corey Madden struck out 92 batters in 58 innings for the Hoppers and earned a promotion to Jupiter. For the season, he went 6-0 with a 1.04 ERA. His strikeout ratio (13.61 per nine innings) is fifth in the Minors.
• OF Bryan Petersen hit 19 homers and drove in 58 runs in 79 games here. He moved up to Jupiter and then to Double-A Carolina.
All-Stars
• The franchise hosted the South Atlantic League All-Star game on June 18. The crowd of 8,367 came early, stayed late and saw the North beat the South 13-4.
• Pitchers Madden, A.J. Battisto and Garrett Parcell represented the Hoppers and the North Division.
• Parcell recorded the game’s final out and went on the disabled list with a strained forearm two days later.
• Battisto struck out 98 and walked 11 for the year. Attendance • The team’s total of 440,787 fans is the second-highest in Greensboro history.
• The total leads the South Atlantic League. • The gathering of 10,103 in Monday’s season finale exceeds five Pittsburgh Pirates home crowds this season.
Don’t Forget
• 3B Matt Dominguez missed the season’s first 50 games with mononucleosis. He drove in 70 runs on 18 dingers in his 88 appearances with the Hoppers.
