The voters have sent a message to Billy Yow and Earl Jones. We have heard enough out of both of you.

You are absolutely correct on Earl Jones. Billy Yow is a great leader, not one to back down when the Loones start thier race-baiting. Yow's time will come and he will represent us well in Washington.

Civic-eroding apathy rules. Hooray! A minority controls our politics! What a victory!

Who cares, except cynics, complaining without voting?

A self-imposed sense of civic helplessness is self-fulfilling prophecy.

Disgusting voter turnout, especially among voters 18 to 49. In one Northern Greensboro precinct, 86 percent of voters were older than 50.

Potential remedy: Sunday voting for convenience, more information on the abiding significance of elections and a galvanizing a sense of civic responsibility. Or is this uncool?

If the news media covered politics as important civic sports whose outcome that really affects us, perhaps we could see some change. Perhaps.

Haranguing and ranting about civic responsibility is insufficient.

Change demands leadership at all levels, but especially among so-called leaders.

Leaders lead. Where are the leaders?

We need leaders. We need dialog. We need responsible people.

Cootee, already done on convenience. They had early voting in the primaries. I voted yesterday; no other voters there at my precinct.

Not a good excuse for not voting, I know -- and I'm one of those apathetic 18 to 49 year-olds that didn't vote in a primary yesterday -- but if I were inspired by any of the choices the parties were presenting me, or if there were one or more folks I wanted to ensure *didn't* win, I might work up the will to take time from an already hectic schedule to go down, pick a party (I'm an independent), and vote.

Talking about leaders, I think good potential leaders need to *run* for office. We need to figure out what we need to change to make it attractive to them. Voter turnout will follow.

Thankfully, that Parasite Earl Jones was defeated. Hopefully we will have someone that isn't interested in dealing gambleing into the poorest parts of our community.

Now that Earl will not be representing his district in Raleigh, you better watch the heck out. Earl's next move will be to sop at the public trough the museum has become only until he becomes a HIGHLY paid lobbyist for the video poker industry in NC. Remember you read it here first!!!!!!

What happened? Earl Jones defeated? Was there voter fraud? What happened to the Simkins PAC support, or didn't he have it? Are the Feds going to investigate this travesty of injustice? You never know what will happen when voters go to the polls in a small southern city. Can't wait to read John Hammer's take on this. Channel 2 is in shock, never heard them say anything about this stunning upset. This was enough of an upset to at least warrant an on the air mention. Maybe the opening of the museum distracted Mr. Jones from the campaign, or perhaps he didn't take the opposition seriously. Never heard any of the experts at local media outlets even suggest the possibility of Earl Jones being defeated.
