General Assembly session lasts 15 minutes

RALEIGH (AP) — Republican leaders at the General Assembly followed through on their word and conducted no business while meeting in Raleigh for less than 15 minutes.

The short floor sessions today in the House and Senate did not relieve the suspicion by Democrats and dozens of activists opposed to GOP policies.

House Democrats say they lost trust in Republican leaders last month when they held an unscheduled after-midnight session to override a veto by Gov. Bev Perdue involving member dues and the North Carolina Association of Educators.

About 75 people critical of the Republican agenda rallied outside the Legislative Building before the noon session.

Months ago Republican leaders scheduled up to three days of work sessions this week to handle possible election district matters that never materialized.

..I fully believe that had few enough Democrats shown up today..that Phil Berger and his henchmen would have ramrodded through some unpopular piece of legislation....he...and they....cannot be trusted at all...

Phil Berger and his cronies are really scummy. There is nothing they won't do to get their way. I hope the teachers in NC remember what they have done to them over the last couple of years.

What a bunch of pompous jerks. Would someone please report on how much this show of arrogance cost the NC taxpayers in per diem and other costs?
