CARY — Police say a man walked into police headquarters over the weekend and confessed to sexually molesting a handicapped child who was in his care for nearly a year.
Marc Anthony Johnson, 32, of 10108 Residence Circle in Cary, has been charged with two felony counts of indecent liberties with a child and one felony count of attempted first-degree sex offense, according to warrants filed Wednesday at the Wake County Magistrate's Office.
"He came forward, said what had happened and that he had to get it off his chest," Capt. Michael Williams said.
Cary detectives think the offenses occurred May 1, 2011, through Feb. 11, court records show.
The incidents occurred while Johnson was serving in a parental role for the child, who is autistic, Williams said.
"It was a child he looked after from time to time," Williams said. "The child was not a blood relative of his. It was a child of a friend of his."
Investigators think Johnson molested the child when the victim was 10, according to Cary Detective P. Marchant.
When Johnson appeared before a magistrate Wednesday afternoon, he said he had filed a civil lawsuit against "the person who caused all of this." He did not elaborate.
Johnson was being held at the Wake County jail Wednesday, his bail set at $2 million.
