Teen drowns in Caswell reservoir
YANCEYVILLE — A Caswell County teenager has died after falling into a reservoir.
The Caswell County Sheriff's Office identified the victim as Damien Farmer, 13, who attended Dillard Middle School.
The sheriff's office said someone called 911 at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday to report that a teenager had jumped into the reservoir behind the Yanceyville Water Plant on West Main Street.
Sheriff's deputies could not find the teen because of the depth and cold temperatures of the water. A Danville (Va.) Life Saving Crew dive team later found Farmer in about 24 feet of water.
Farmer was pronounced dead at 1:30 a.m. today in Danville (Va.) Regional Medical Center. An autopsy is planned.
The sheriff's office did not say why Farmer was at the reservoir but said deputies do not suspect foul play in his death.
