Duke beats Carolina by one point after Austin Rivers sinks a 3-pointer. Rivers says that “God put the ball in the rim.”
In the defense of God and Carolina fans, I would like to say, “Nonsense.” God had nothing to do with Rivers hitting that shot. God does not favor one athletic team over another. Austin Rivers is nothing more or less than a very talented entertainer. Basketball is nothing more than a game for entertainment.
To claim the power of God would actually step in and cause a Duke victory is to trivialize the concept of God. God may or may not intervene in human affairs, but this statement implies an ego and glorification of self which should not go unchallenged.
