Surge of reported coyote sightings in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE (AP) — Mecklenburg County officials are discussing what should be done about a recent surge in reported coyote sightings.

The county set up a website two weeks ago allowing residents to report sightings of the animals, and since then more than 200 reports have been logged.

Chris Matthews with the county park and recreation department says it's not clear yet whether people are seeing the same coyotes. County commissioners have discussed the possibility of using GPS tracking to help resolve the question.

The website was designed after complaints from Charlotte residents about coyotes attacking house pets.

The state Wildlife Resources Commission has proposed limited nighttime hunting of coyotes and feral pigs to control their populations across the state. Public hearings will be held next month.

I could've sworn I saw something that looked very similar to this in my backyard about 2 weeks ago, but it was dark and it vanished as quickly as my headlights picked it up as I was pulling into my driveway here in GSO.

someone needs to inform Charlotte residents of guilford co's solution to coyotes -" just throw tennis balls at them and they will know they are not welcome".

Wonder where these coyotes came from?
Maybe because they were stocked here a few years ago.
