Authorities seized a roughly 1,000-gallon illegal liquor still just outside of Benson on Tuesday night.
A Johnston County Sheriff's deputy responded to a complaint in the area and discovered the still, according to Patty McQuillan, spokesperson for the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement.
About 332 gallons of alcohol and 6,465 gallons of mash were seized and destroyed in the bust by ALE agents and sheriff's deputies.
Tony Benson, who owns the property and lives in a house nearby, was charged with manufacturing non-tax paid liquor, possession of untaxed liquor, possession of alcoholic beverages for sale without an ABC permit, and possession of equipment for use in manufacturing unregulated alcohol.
