OPINION

Let City Council do the job it was hired to do

Your editorials normally make a great deal of sense to me. However, your words on making the selection of a new city manager non-confidential left me wondering if the people who wrote this opinion have any professional experience at all. The personal damage this could effect to a candidate whose job change plans must be kept private to protect his current position could be significant (should he not be selected for the new position).

Beyond this, we have recently elected a City Council to do a job. I hope we voted for these people because we trust their integrity and talent. We should, therefore, expect them to do the job we elected them to do.

Your opinion mentioned that the council was meeting with  some “community leaders” regarding the search process. What are our council members if not community leaders?

We have chosen these council members to do a job for us. We should, in fact, insist that they do that job and fulfill our expectations of them. I’m glad five members feel that way and voted responsibly.

There is an old saying used in business: “Lead, follow or get out of the way.” Please let them do their job.
