GREENVILLE, S.C — Trevis Simpson and Derrell Armstrong combined to score 52 points, but UNCG couldn’t get enough defensive stops as Furman handed the Spartans a 93-85 setback Saturday at Timmons Arena.
The loss snapped UNCG’s seven-game winning streak.
Playing on the road for the first time in three weeks, UNCG (9-15, 7-5 Southern Conference) struggled early going against the more physical Paladins (12-11, 6-6). Furman led by as many as 11 points in the first half and 14 points in the second half.
The Paladins opened a 14-point lead when a Bobby Austin 3-pointer made it 47-33 with 17:01 to play.
Brandon Sebirumbi scored 20 points to lead six Furman players in double figures.
Furman scored its most points against a Division I opponent since racking up 98 in a win over High Point on Dec. 20, 2003. The Paladins improved to 8-1 at home against the Spartans.
Richard Brown added 16 points, Charlie Reddick had 14 points, Bryant Irwin had 12, and Bobby Austin and Jordan Loyd each scored 11 for the Paladins (12-11, 6-6 Southern Conference).
Furman made 37 of 47 free throw attempts. UNCG hit 27 of 31 from the line.
