Rockingham People: Recipients named for chamber awards

The following awards were announced during the Eden Chamber of Commerce 2011 Annual Dinner on Jan. 24:

Chairman’s Star Award, Jodi Lester; Director of the Year, Neil Fair; Small Business Member of the Year, David Price of Auto Works; Member of the Year, Gildan Activewear; Volunteer of the Year, Tony Edwards; President’s Award, Sandi Adkins; Community Appearance Renovation, The Johns Manor House; Community Appearance Landscaping, Draper Elementary School; 2011 Distinguished Citizen of the Year, Duane and Gloria Best; 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award, Joseph G. Maddrey.

Outgoing board members were Jane Lloyd, Home Savings Bank; Will Flynt, Davis Appraisal Services; Bob Cotton, Mohawk/Karastab; Janet Kennedy, MillerCoors; Karl Miller, News & Record; Carole Roberts, Atkinson Real Estate; and Linda Wyatt, Granny’s Variety and Antiques.

The following students were named to the fall dean’s list at Western Carolina University: Deanna S. Roberts, Eden; Courtney N. Robinette, Eden; Carmen Nicole Ramsey, Madison; Brandon Tyrone Chestnut, Reidsville; Beth Ellen Leinecker, Reidsville; Hunter James Ore, Reidsville; Monica Rae Pruitt, Ruffin; Matthew L. James, Stokesdale; Megan Elizabeth Mericle, Stoneville; Joseph D. Pierce, Summerfield; and Kirstin Thomas, Summerfield.

Logan Rhodes was crowned queen of Morehead High School’s basketball homecoming ceremony Jan. 19.

Rhodes, the daughter of Brian and Pam Rhodes, is a member of the Key Club. Rhodes was escorted at the ceremony by Carter Watkins.

Destiny Roberts and Caroline Frazer were each crowned princesses.

Other 2012 homecoming Ladies Court members were Abigail Butcher, Maddie Lawson and Chelsea White.

Nakia O’Ryan Thompson was crowned king. Thompson, the son of Melanie Thompson and Sammy Scales, is a member of the varsity football team and track team, and he is the varsity basketball team manager.

Thompson was escorted at the ceremony by Dawn Perkins.

Mark Bailey and William Nance were each crowned princes.

Kevin Osborne has been named director of institutional planning and research at Rockingham Community College following the retirement of H. David Smathers.

The following students were named to the fall dean’s list at Wake Forest University: Ashley Lauren Berger, Eden; Brittany Nicole Manning, Madison; Leah Mae Schenkel, Reidsville; and Hannah Catherine Bailey, Stoneville.

Jacqueline Dillard and Tina Zanetti, both of Eden, and Katherine Overbey of Reidsville, made the fall dean’s list at National College in Danville, Va.
