St. James Homes may become gated apartments

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

— A portion of St. James Homes' affordable apartments may soon be transformed into a gated apartment community.

Another part of the complex, which has buildings on both sides of South Eugene Street, may be leveled to make way for the future expansion of Goodwill Industries of Central North Carolina, pending a rezoning and sale of that property.

Melvin “Skip” Alston, whose Alston Reality Group will develop and manage the complex for the nonprofit St. James Homes Inc., said it will be a $3 million renovation that will add a third story to the existing apartments.

Well if this renovation goes as smoothly as the Civil Rights Museum did, it should be finished by 2022 at cost about 30 million when it’s all said and done.

Ole Skipper always has his greedy fingers in the pie, I wonder where he would be if he had to play on a level field??

Try and behave in this thread today, folks. It already has half as many deleted comments as published comments, and I don't think I like where this is headed.

We're up to two comments deleted for being off-topic. Anyone have anything to say about the proposed project?

Well, can't read the whole article, but isn't St. James already gated? Will other improvements be made to the interiors, the grounds?

@ yardman: I deleted both of your comments because they were off topic.

It was a simple request. I'm sorry you can't follow directions.

Thread closed.

P.S.: I deleted your comment, too, Sparky, because it's off topic.

If you all behaved yourselves all of the time, I wouldn't have to police the site comments. But you don't, so here I am.
