An internist at Moses Cone Hospital faces charges in Cumberland County that he was trying to solicit a child by computer to have sex, the sheriff's office said today.
Vijaya-Prakash Boggala, 31, of 42 Ackland Drive in Greensboro was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon in a grocery store parking lot off Cedar Creek Road in Fayetteville, according to a Cumberland County Sheriff's Office news release.
Boggala had been corresponding with someone he thought was a 14-year old girl but who was actually a Cumberland County Sheriff's undercover officer, according to the news release.
According to the sheriff's office, he drove his 1995 Toyota Camry from Greensboro to Fayetteville to engage in sexual relations with the girl. Instead, deputies were waiting for his arrival.
Boggala was wearing hospital scrubs when he was arrested, according to the sheriff's office.
He was being held in the Cumberland County jail. His bond status was not immediately available.
Boggala is expected to make his first appearance in court at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
