High Point speedskater Heather Richardson finished sixth overall Sunday at the World Sprint Championships in Calgary, Alberta.
Richardson, the top American at the event, finished fifth in the 1,000 meters (1 minute, 14.05 seconds) and seventh in the 500 (37.85) on Sunday.
In the 1,000, she was 1:11 behind first-place finisher Christine Nesbitt of Canada. In the 500, Richardson was ninety-one hundredths behind winner Jing Yu of China, who set a world record with a time of 36.94 seconds.
Jing was the overall champion, finishing two-hundredths of a second faster than Nesbitt over four races and two days. Richardson finished 1.58 behind Jing.
JUNIOR GOLF: Westchester senior golfer Jonathan DiIanni of Kernersville won his second consecutive tournament in the Winternational Junior Series Sunday at Pinehurst No. 6.
DiIanni, who has signed with Purdue, won the Junior/Senior Division of the two-round event with a 1-over-par 143 total that was four shots better than runner-up Trey Guy of Fayetteville. Bishop McGuinness senior William Whitacre (163) of Greensboro was 10th.
