Officials from two regional groups kick off a series of meetings Tuesday evening aimed at charting a wise course for growth during the next two decades.
The Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation and the Piedmont Triad Regional Council are hosting the first meetings of their "sustainable communities planning project" at the Greensboro Central Library on North Church Street and the Davie County Library in Mocksville.
The groups are seeking comment from residents about challenges their communities face. A $1.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is paying for the planning effort, which aims to improve the region's economic competitiveness by doing a better job of linking housing to good jobs, improved schools and more efficient transportation.
Meetings will be held in all 12 counties across the region during the next six weeks. Two-hour meetings are scheduled to begin Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Mocksville and at 5:30 p.m. in Greensboro.
