WINSTON-SALEM — Two people have been charged in separate fatal car crashes that happened late last year.
Winston-Salem police said Joshua Sean Bowman of Yadkinville has been charged with felony death by vehicle and driving while impaired after a Dec. 15 crash that killed a passenger.
Police also said James William Mauren of Pfafftown was charged in a Nov. 27 crash that killed a passenger in another car.
Bowman, 22, was driving an Audi coupe west on Brookstown Avenue about 2 a.m. Dec. 15. As the car crossed West End Boulevard, it went airborne and landed upside-down near the walking track at Hanes Park. A passenger, Rhiannon Nicole Rupert, 29, of Mount Airy, was ejected.
Rupert later died of her injuries. Bowman was seriously injured. His bond was set at $100,000.
On Nov. 27, police said Mauren's Chevrolet Lumina collided with a Cadillac Seville at Hanes Mill Road and Oak Summit South Court. A passenger in the Cadillac, Chantelle Charice Sargent, 33, of Winston-Salem died in the crash.
Mauren, 34, was charged with involuntary manslaughter, driving without a license, running a red light and having an open container of alcohol. His bond was set at $25,000.
