SOUTHPORT (AP) — A middle school student in Brunswick County has been suspended after officials say he put BBs into the school cafeteria's vegetable soup.

School districts spokeswoman Jessica Swencki says a South Brunswick Middle School student in Southport was suspended Thursday.

Brunswick County sheriff's deputies have been asked to investigate.

Swencki says the BBs were found during the last lunch period by custodians. The soup was taken off the serving line and from students' plates.
