GREENSBORO — A raccoon found on Buckingham Road is the first confirmed case of rabies in Guilford County in 2012.

The raccoon, which tested positive for the virus on Wednesday, had contact with a dog.

The Guilford County Department suggests that all domestic pets — even animals confined in fenced areas outdoors — should get a rabies vaccine.

To report stray or strange-acting animals or exposures to sick animals, call Animal Control at 641-5990 in Greensboro or 883-3224 in High Point.
