Sessions (617-3960) a coffee, espresso, beer and wine hall, has opened at 1820 Spring Garden St. in the location formerly occupied by The Coffee Break.
Sessions offers 18 to 21 drafts, including Belgian brews and American crafts.
Brews are offered in American-style pints and Belgian tulips ($8) and imperial pints ($6). Half-pints are $4.
Taps rotate and may include brews such as Weyerbacher, Kellerbier, Duck Rabbit and Gulden Draak.
“We serve beers in unique ways,” says Allen Tyndall, who opened Sessions early this month.
Unique concoctions called Hot Monk or Dragon’s Milk are created on the spot.
Tyndall had planned to open Sessions in downtown Greensboro, but he says that location didn’t work out.
Tyndall has a long familiarity with craft beer. He started brewing his own in his early 20s. He worked at Cape Fear Wine and Beer in Wilmington. He considers the owner of The Duck-Rabbit Craft Brewery in Farmville a personal friend. But this engineer in the Information Technology field would rather be a purveyor of fine beer than brew it.
Sessions also offers an evolving wine list.
Monday is wine night. Wednesday is beer club appreciation night. And Thursday is singer-songwriter open mike night. Tyndall describes Sunday’s Beer Church as a chance to experience the hall’s selections at $3 for a half pint.
Sessions also offers daily brews from Carolina Coffee, along with specialty coffee drinks, flavored coffee and espresso drinks.
Sessions offers limited prepackaged food options from Sweet Basil’s Catering such as wraps, antipasto plates and artichoke dip.
Tyndall says Sessions is the home of Greensboro’s only Art-O-Mat. Tyndall had the restored cigarette machine commissioned by Art-O-Mat creator Clark Whittington. The vintage vending machine now dispenses miniature art packaged in cellophane wrapped boxes.
Sessions also offers sofa seating, an outdoor patio and static IP wifi.
Sessions is open from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. daily.

Gourmet menu options
In a departure from operating Jake’s Diner’s — there are four of them now in the Triad — Allen Blythe and Doug Atkins have taken charge of McPherson’s Bar and Grill (5710-N High Point, Greensboro; 292-6496) at Adams Farm Shopping Center. And they’ve enlisted the help of Kristina Fuller, the talented, young chef of The Bistro next door to McPherson’s.
Fuller has helped to revamp the menu, giving the restaurant’s pub fare a gourmet twist.
Fuller and McPherson’s longtime general manager Jason Smith started with the burgers. After weeks of tweaking and sampling, McPherson’s created a menu of craft burgers such as the All-American Dirk ($7.99) with bacon and American cheese, My Thai ($8.79) with grilled pineapple and topped with Thai chili sauce and coconut-basil aioli and the Firehouse ($8.35) with a signature hot sauce, choice of ranch or bleu cheese dressing and cucumber and red onion relish.
“We want to give them (patrons) burger options they can’t get anywhere else,” Fuller says.
Beef comes from regional producers and buns from local bakers.
Serious eaters can brave The McPhersonator ($14.99) — a pound of beef and a half-pound of corned beef — with bacon, caramelized onions, three cheeses, sauteed mushrooms and a special sauce.
Fuller says the restaurant has created all of its own sauces and relishes.
You can also build your own burger ($8.29) with a choice of cheese, veggies and additional toppings such as onion straws and guacamole.
Additional sandwiches include a Butter Steak ($8.79), Philly Steak and Cheese ($7.99) and shrimp or cod fish po’ boy ($8.99).
Entrees include a rib-eye ($16.95), hibachi-style stir fry ($15.95) and fish and chips ($12.95).
McPherson’s wings ($7.99 for 10) now come with more than 10 signature sauces including sweet chipotle barbecue, honey maple, jerk and 911 Firehouse.
Other appetizers include spinach and artichoke dip ($6.95) and fried pickles ($5.99) with spicy jalapeno ranch dip.
McPherson’s offers Monday through Thursday dinner specials that include baked spaghetti on Monday and prime rib and half-price wine Thursday.
Lunch basket specials ($4.99) are offered from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Daily soups might include tomato-basil, potato corn chowder or gumbo. Chili is offered daily.
A kids’ menu is available.
The new menu debuts Thursday. Free wings will be offered with the purchase of a burger on Thursday only.
