Democrats want to delay N.C. primary

RALEIGH (AP) — Democrats and advocacy groups suing over new Republican-drawn maps for legislative and congressional districts say the state's May 8 primary should be delayed until July 10 while judges decide whether the boundaries are unconstitutional.

The plaintiffs who've challenged the redistricting plans have formally filed a motion asking a panel of three judges to prevent the maps from being used this year. The lawsuits allege the boundary lines are illegal because they cross too many county lines and its authors used racial considerations above all else without good reason.

The preliminary injunction motion asks for the two-month primary delay but suggests the court could wait until Aug. 28 while the maps run through the courts.

A hearing on the state's motion to dismiss the consolidated lawsuits is scheduled Thursday.

Once again, the Dems are trumpeting the race issue. If the DOJ has already approved the districting plans, it appears to be a loosing battle. But, the Dems also know their ability to maintain power (as they have for the last 100 years) is eroding thanks to the elections in 2010. And that is the crux of the issue . . . power and control.

I thought it was the Democrats who supported using race when making all decisions. Now they say it was used too much? Kinda like the pot calling the kettle black, no pun intended.

Just look at N.C. District 12 and Brad Miller's district. Talk about crossing too many county lines. It's the POT calling the KETTLE Black.
