FAYETTEVILLE — A Fayetteville woman was charged Friday with 37 counts of sexually molesting a 12-year-old and photographing the acts, authorities said.
Catina Lynn Martell, 37, of the 1700 block of Winnabow Drive, is charged with seven counts of committing a sex offense with a child and six counts each of second-degree sex offense, child abuse, and first-, second- and third-degree sexual exploitation of a child, according to arrest warrants.
A Cumberland County magistrate set bail at $4.75 million.
The alleged incidents occurred in August and September, Fayetteville police Lt. Chris Davis said.
Martell is accused of engaging in sexual activity with the child "for the purpose of producing material containing a visual representation depicting this activity," arrest warrants said. Martell is accused of photographing the acts and having possession of the materials, warrants said.
Martell is a former employee of Cumberland County Emergency Medical Services of Cape Fear Valley Health System, said Donnie Byers, a spokesman for the health system. She worked as an emergency medical technician paramedic but stopped working for the health system Oct. 30, he said.
Byers said he didn't know if Martell quit or was fired.
Martell indicated on arrest documents she was employed as a part-time instructor at Fayetteville Technical Community College.
A message left for a college spokesman seeking clarification on her employment status wasn't immediately returned.
