BURLINGTON (MCT) — A house was destroyed and a family pet killed in a house fire on Bland Boulevard early Tuesday.
The Burlington Fire Department was called to 328 Bland Blvd. about 1:16 a.m. Tuesday. Deputy Fire Chief Michael Willets said heavy fire and smoke were coming from the rear of the house by the time firefighters arrived.
The residents of the house, Carolyn and Edward Carter, and his 80-year-old mother escaped without injury. Their dachshund was killed.
The blaze caused an estimated $90,000 in damage to the structure and $25,000 in damage to the contents. The house was insured.
Fire investigators blamed the blaze on an overloaded electrical circuit, Willets said. A space heater was being used as overnight temperatures dipped into the 20s.
