DURHAM (AP) — A lawyer for three members of the Duke Lacrosse team that had its season canceled after unfounded rape allegations were leveled against others on the team wants the records of two public relations firms the university consulted.
The Herald-Sun of Durham reports that attorney Bob Ekstrand said the records are vital to the three teammates' suit because public relations worries were central to Duke's response to the rape charges against three other players in 2006, which were later dropped.
Duke university lawyers say Ekstrand is fishing for information he shouldn't get. They say a higher court has already ruled Ekstrand can only review whether Duke breached a contract with the players and if the university conspired with authorities to hide information that was turned over to police.
