January

Mattress Firm opened in Greensboro’s Friendly Center shopping center.

J.C. Penney Co. announced plans to close six poorly performing department stores, including the store at Oak Hollow Mall in High Point.

The Thrill of the Hunt in Greensboro got a makeoever and a name change. It’s now Preen Vintage Jewelry.

The Ideal Home Center, which features 25 businesses, opened off Lawndale Drive in Greensboro.

The Tin Roof, a furniture and consignment store, opened in Greensboro.

Mary’s Jewelry Box, which buys and sells second-hand jewelry, opened in downtown Greensboro.

Old Time Pottery closed in Greensboro.

Ballentine’s 1910 Frame Factory on West Market Street in Greensboro closed after 40 years in business.
