Brunswick commissioner goes to police over video

BOLIVIA (AP) — A coastal North Carolina county commissioner has asked sheriff's deputies to investigate after he felt threatened by a video posted online.

The StarNews of Wilmington reports that Brunswick County Commissioner Charles Warren's official complaint doesn't describe the video in detail, but two have been posted recently on YouTube mocking Warren's behavior.

Warren has battled with his fellow commissioners after refusing to step down from the county Department of Social Services board despite an ethics policy that prohibits county commissioners from serving on such boards.

The state and county chapters of the NAACP have accused county commissioners of racism for censuring Warren over the issue.

Brunswick County commissioners plan a hearing next month about whether to dump Warren from the DSS board.

I say congratulations to Wilmington for having commissioners who are interested in ethics and conflicts of interest. I wish we had city council members who had the same concerns. Take a good look at what happened with regard to water and sewer to GTCC property and surrounding properties. See if you find any members of the city council own any surrounding property and might financially benefit from the situation. Hint - Mayor?

Mr. Warren is not smelling like a rose if he is required to resign from the DSS board while he is a County Commissioner. He should resign.

The local NAACP does not help itself when it cries racism at every little thing. It is not racist to criticize someone who is breaking the rules.

However, I can see why Mr. Warren is upset by the video. I just watched what is probably one of the videos on You Tube.

It shows a funeral . . . Kim Jong Il's to be precise, with the subtitle, "A look into the future of Charles Warren." The end shot is a handgun image designed to shoot at the triggerman, "A Stick My Hands Up Film."

I found it chilling.

Break the rules and do what you want to, because you know the NAACP will help you by playing the Race Card.

I say stand on your own two feet and Throw away the Race Card. The last time Jesse Jackson played the Race Card was defending the stripper in Durham who eventually Murdered her boy friend. If people do something wrong the Race Card is NOT the answer.

No, it's not. But it doesn't look like Mr. Warren is playing the race card when it comes to his complaint.

The NAACP played the race card in regards to calls for him to step down from the DSS board.

There's a difference.

I stand corrected...you are right.

Although I did say the NAACP did play the race card and if one complains to them that is probably the ultimate goal.

In reading this article again, why should the NAACP even get involved if there is a law on the books that says warren cannot do what he did? Purely race....would they step in if it were a white county commissioner that did this?

I'm not being racist, it's just that it's a never ending cycle over decades of using this issue. One cannot get into the heads of people and claim their motives for doing things. Warren broke the rules and was requested to step down. Judge him on what he has done.

I'm sure he is as beloved as our own Skip Alston. People just want things done right.
