GREENSBORO — Guilford County Commissioner Linda Shaw was assaulted by her step-grandson in her home Monday, according to an arrest warrant.
Robert Charles “Robbie” Hewett, 29, of 8331 Lakedale Circle in Colfax, was charged with assault on a female. He was released from custody on a $500 cash bond.
Shaw, 71, told police Hewett entered her home at 5105 Bennington Drive in Greensboro uninvited about 2 p.m. and was acting belligerent toward her and his grandfather, former state senator Bob Shaw, according to the warrant.
Linda Shaw went to a bedroom to call the police. Then Hewett pushed her on the bed, knocked the phone out of her hand, hit her twice on the top of the head and held her down, according to the warrant.
“It just broke my heart,” Linda Shaw said in a phone interview Monday night.
Shaw was treated at Moses Cone Hospital, but is “OK,” she said.
Hewett denies the assault and Linda Shaw’s statement that he came to the house uninvited. He said he wanted to discuss family issues with his grandparents. Hewett’s court date is set for Feb. 8.
