ASHEBORO -- Klaussner Home Furnishings will be helping some county residents sleep easier this holiday.
Mark Akerman, vice president of sales and merchandising of Enzo Sleep Systems, a division of Klaussner Home Furnishings, responded to an e-mail from Communities In Schools of Randolph County requesting mattresses for local families.
"Klaussner believes that it is important for us to be a good corporate citizen, especially this time of year," Akerman said. "We are fortunate to have such a robust business and enjoy what the community provides us. It feels good to give back. This was just a small way to be able to help those who needed it this time of year."
Klaussner and CISRC have worked together on many projects. According to Akerman, Klaussner associates are always willing to help.
"Communities in Schools is very involved in helping children and when there is an opportunity, especially with children that have a need, there are so many at Klaussner that volunteer to help. Whether that help comes as mentoring students or volunteering at schools, there are many opportunities that we do through Communities in Schools. It is a very worthwhile organization."
After finding out that some single parent families in the area were sleeping on the floor, Executive Director of CISRC Sandi Norman, made some calls and sent e-mails in hopes to find mattresses for the families.
"The families were appreciative because it was something they need. They felt very blessed, especially around this time of year, to have gotten those," Norman said. "This is one of those great things that happen at Christmas. It feels good when you are able to help someone that is in need and it just falls all together."
CISRC Archdale Area Coordinators Christie Smith and Dara Matthews picked up the mattresses from Klaussner and delivered nine twin-sized mattresses to the families on Wednesday.
"We enjoyed being Santa's elves. The families were so appreciative of this gift and felt blessed to be part of such a caring community."
