— A Burlington man is in jail after police say he assaulted a woman at a motel late Thursday afternoon.

According to a Burlington police press release, at around 5:30 p.m. Thursday, a woman came to the police department to report an assault.

The woman said she had been held against her will in Room 323 at the Motel Six, 2155 Hanford Road.

The woman said she and her boyfriend, Bradley Eugene Payne, 30, of 205 Piedmont Way, went to the motel Wednesday. She said Payne got drunk and began to assault her over the course of a 24-hour period. Payne placed a chair in front of the room door and would not allow the victim to leave, police say.

On Thursday, motel staff forced the couple to leave the premises because they had not rented the room beyond Thursday. The victim was taken to Alamance Regional Medical Center, where she was treated and released.

At approximately 10 p.m. Thursday, officers arrested Bradley Eugene Payne without incident. Payne was charged with assault inflicting serious injury, false imprisonment and communicating threats.

He was held in the Alamance County jail without bond. He will have a first appearance Friday in district court.
