GREENSBORO — Loaf Bakery was expected to open this morning at 227-B S. Elm St.
The excitement has been building for the European-style bakery and coffee bar occupying the former home of Simple Kneads bakery, which closed in August.
It will offer artisan breads and pastries.
"For the past two weeks, when the lights were on, someone would stop in an average of every 10 minutes to ask if we were open," says Robert Roth, who is opening the bakery with business partner Angela Gregory.
Roth, owner of Rothchild's Angus Farm, is a familiar vendor at the Greensboro Farrmers Curb Market. Gregory has managed commercial bakeries in the United Kingdom.
The staff includes a local baker, a baker with national experience and an award-winning French pastry chef.
Luke Whitten, who ran Greensborough Coffee on State Street, will be on staff to man the coffee bar.
Loaf also offers locally produced Tea Hugger teas in black and green flavors.
