GREENSBORO — Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler said this morning at the N.C. Farm Bureau's annual convention that he will run for a third term as the state's top farmer.
"I wanted to do this here, at home," said Troxler, 59, who still farms in Browns Summit.
Troxler, a Republican, said the department he runs now is much different from the one he took charge of eight years ago.
The Republican-run legislature transferred 800 employees and many more responsibilities to the agency as part of this year's budget.
Forestry was transferred at a time when it seemed like all of eastern North Carolina was burning up, Troxler said.
