GREENSBORO — Mary Ann Holder’s violent rampage took the life of its final teen victim Friday when 17-year-old Richard Brian Suttles died from a gunshot wound to the head.
The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office said the youth, a senior at The Middle College at GTCC High Point, died shortly before 1 p.m. “as a result of the gunshot wound he received on Nov. 20.”
Ricky Suttles was the last of five youths to die of bullet wounds sheriff’s investigators say Holder inflicted Sunday on two of her own children, her nephew Suttles and his 8-year-old sister, and the girlfriend of one of Holder’s sons.
Holder, 36, then took her own life by shooting herself in the head.
Ricky Suttles died at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital after clinging to life in critical condition for five days.
Efforts to reach the father of the two Suttles children, Brian J. Suttles of Wallace, were unsuccessful Friday.
The sheriff’s office continues to investigate the case, and it’s unclear when the inquiry will end, Col. Randy Powers said Friday.
Investigators gathered significant amounts of forensic evidence that will take time to examine, Powers said.
“We want to be completely sure,” Powers said. “We have a pretty good idea of what happened, but we want to make certain we’re right.”
Investigators plan to compile a final report summing up their conclusions when the investigation is complete, but it remains to be seen how much of those findings will be released to the public, Powers said.
Victims who died Sunday in Holder’s home at 923 Cocoa Drive were her oldest son, Robert Dylan Smith, 18, and her niece, Hanaleigh Suttles, 8. Dylan Smith’s girlfriend, Makayla Lee Woods, 15, died Wednesday of injuries also suffered at Holder’s hands Sunday in the house.
Ricky Suttles, who died Friday, was shot with the others.
Later Sunday morning, Holder also shot her youngest son, Zachary Lee “Zack” Smith, 14, while in her car parked on Remora Road. Soon after, she turned the weapon on herself, the sheriff’s office said.
Zack Smith died Monday.
Investigators speculate the killings were related to fallout from an affair Holder had with a sixth victim, Randal Scott “Randy” Lamb, 40, whom she also wounded Sunday morning. Lamb was shot in the shoulder and elbow in the parking lot of GTCC’s Aviation Center on Regional Road.
Lamb’s wounds were not life-threatening; he managed to drive away.
Forbis & Dick Funeral Services on Pleasant Garden Road is handling arrangements for Holder and her deceased victims, but details have not yet been announced.
