— An Elon police officer used a stun gun to subdue the son of the chief of Elon University Campus Police during a drug arrest Tuesday night.

Clint William Gantos, 42, of Durham Street Extension, Burlington, was stopped in a 2005 Chevrolet at about 10:40 p.m. Tuesday in the Carolina Biological parking lot, according to an Elon Police Department report.

Police allegedly found .01 grams of crack cocaine residue in Clint Gantos' possession. Clint Gantos was charged with felony possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving after consuming a sufficient amount of alcohol and resist, delay and obstruct a public officer. He was placed in Alamance County jail under $8,000 bond at about 12:20 a.m. Wednesday, according to jail records.

Clint Gantos' vehicle was released to his father, Chuck Gantos, who is the chief of Elon University Campus Police Department, according to the police report.

"Mr. (Clint) Gantos was placed into custody for possession of cocaine after conducting a traffic stop on him," according to the report.

Elon police officer James Giannotti stopped Clint Gantos for allegedly driving while impaired. He used a stun gun to take him into custody. Giannotti was required to fill out a use-of-force report, said Elon police Chief LaVell Lovette. Elon police didn't have a mug shot of Clint Gantos because he was uncooperative.

Gantos' next court date on the most recent charges is Feb. 17. He also has a court date Dec. 1 for a 2010 charge of misdemeanor common law robbery, according to court records.
