The 2011 Women to Women grant recipient is The Women’s Resource Center for its New Choices Program, which strongly aligns with Women to Women’s focus on education this year.

Ashley Brooks, executive director of the Women’s Resource Center of Greensboro, says they are very grateful to Women to Women for the $25,000 grant from an endowment created by The Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro.

“In an economy as tough as this, every penny counts. We have a diverse funding stream, but $25,000 is a sizable grant and will have a huge impact.”

The New Choices Program helps women who are transitioning back into the paid work force after years of caring for their home and family. Often these women have to go back to work because of life difficulties such as divorce or the disability, termination or death of a spouse.

The program helps these women get needed training or education, offers peer support and helps them with job-search skills.

The Women’s Resource Center is seeing an increased need for the New Choices program as the economy and layoffs in the area are sending women back to the workplace to help support their families.

“It’s more important than ever with more women joining the workforce,” Brooks said.
