N.C. students average on national tests
RALEIGH (AP) — North Carolina students are right about average on math and reading test results.
The report released today from the National Assessment of Educational Progress show the state's schools are making slow progress on improving test scores compared to other states.
The results are one indication students have made little progress since the last time the exam dubbed "The Nation's Report Card" was given in 2009.
Average reading scores for fourth-grade and eighth-grade students in North Carolina were not significantly different from the national average. Math scores were better than average for both grades.
About one-third of the students taking the test were proficient in reading, little changed from two years ago. About 44 percent of fourth-graders and 37 percent of eighth-graders were proficient in math, again little changed.
