GREENSBORO -- Guilford County Schools Superintendent Maurice "Mo" Green received a contract extension through 2015, but declined a pay raise at tonight's school board meeting.

The Guilford County Board of Education unanimously approved extending Green's contract to June 30, 2015. The board also voted Tuesday night to extend contracts for the following employees through the same date: Sharon Ozment, chief financial officer; Nora Carr, chief of staff; and Beth Folger, chief academic officer.

Green, who earns $250,000, again refused a 3 percent raise to show solidarity with employees who've gone without pay increases during the economic slump. He has turned down a total of at least $75,000 in raises since joining the district in 2008.

"I wish he would accept the compensation," said Amos Quick, board vice chairman. "The outcomes for our school district are improving."
