WINSTON-SALEM (MCT) — A High Point native is now in charge of the post offices in Winston-Salem.
Toni Gorman is replacing David Barcio, who retired earlier this year.
Gorman has been a postal employee for more than 25 years. She began her postal career as a rural letter carrier in Kernersville in 1986.
She worked her way up the U.S. Postal Service managerial ranks -- serving as customer services supervisor in High Point, manager of customer service in Waughtown Station in Winston-Salem, officer-in-charge in Oak Ridge, postmaster of Brown Summit, postmaster of Roanoke Rapids and postmaster of Chapel Hill.
She worked most of the year as the acting postmaster in Winston-Salem before officially becoming postmaster.
"I want to make clear to the citizens of Winston-Salem that service is our priority at the Postal Service," Gorman said. "It's a critical time in our organization, and we plan to keep the mail moving and our presence relevant.
"We will keep in touch with the community and let them know what is going on."
In Winston-Salem, the main post office is located at 1500 Patterson Ave., and there are three delivery stations, two retail-only offices and four contract post offices doing postal business.
Within those facilities, Gorman is responsible for 286 employees and 169 carrier routes that deliver more than 190 million pieces of mail annually to more than 122,000 delivery points and 6,083 post office boxes.
Gorman is a native of High Point and now resides in Kernersville with her husband, Jim, a postal manager based in Greensboro.
