The Top Workplaces 2011 survey was compiled by the News & Record in conjunction with Workplace Dynamics, a company that surveys employees across the country. 

Workplace Dynamics surveys employees on behalf of their companies and for newspapers and other publications. The goal of this survey is to find out what drives employees in Triad companies and to recognize those companies and their leaders.

Workplace Dynamics invited 804 employers with at least 50 workers in the Triad, covering Guilford and Forsyth counties, to participate. Ultimately, 57 companies volunteered to be surveyed. After sending surveys to nearly 20,000 of those companies’ employees, Workplace Dynamics got responses from 12,521 workers.

For this survey:

• Employees, surveyed on paper or online, responded to a set of statements that are compiled into statistics comparing companies evenly.

• Using careful standards, including a rule that requires an employee response rate of at least 35 percent per company, Workplace Dynamics ranked employers within their size category.

• The top employers in each size category were then selected as the Top Workplaces for 2011.

• The company also chose a list of special awards based on standout scores on specific survey statements.
